Abstract

Future energy resources focus on high-efficiency renewables, advanced nuclear systems, next-generation energy storage, and smart grid integration. [1, 2, 3] Solar & Wind Power Innovations • Perovskite and Tandem Solar Cells: Reaching higher efficiencies (over 25% for perovskite and above 30% for tandem cells) while reducing manufacturing costs. [1, 2] • Bifacial & Floating Solar: Capturing sunlight from both sides and utilizing water bodies for a 15% cooling efficiency boost. [1] • Next-Gen Wind Tech: Expanding into deeper offshore floating turbines, vertical-axis designs, and high-altitude wind systems. [1, 2, 3] Advanced Nuclear & SMRs • Small Modular Reactors (SMRs): Offering flexible, scalable, and lower-risk nuclear baseload power, with global and national rollouts scaling up. For instance, India’s Nuclear Energy Mission has allocated ₹20,000 crore to deploy at least five indigenous SMRs by 2033, alongside expanding capacity toward a 100 GW target by 2047 via the Press Information Bureau. [1, 2, 3] • Thorium & Fast Breeder Reactors: Utilizing abundant alternative fuel cycles like thorium and fast-neutron reactors (such as the 500 MWe Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor in Kalpakkam achieving first criticality). [1, 2, 3] Energy Storage & Hydrogen • Next-Gen Batteries: Transitioning beyond standard lithium-ion to solid-state, sodium-ion, flow, and thermal molten-salt storage to stabilize intermittent grids. [1, 2, 3] • Green Hydrogen: Produced via water electrolysis using renewable power, targeted for hard-to-abate heavy industries and long-duration storage (with India aiming for 5 MMT annually by 2030). [1, 2, 3] Smart Grids & Alternative Sources • AI & Digital Twins: Using real-time data analytics, sensors, and blockchain to balance decentralized generation and peer-to-peer energy trading. [1, 2, 3] • Geothermal & Marine: Expanding Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) beyond volcanic hot spots, alongside wave, tidal, and osmotic energy projects along coastlines
